Shortly after becoming a California Professional Geologist, I joined the California Geology board as a Subject Matter Expert and worked in all aspects of development of the California Specific Geology Exam. Drip Content
Seriously, this is important. These courses are designed to “drip” the content to you by providing one Module per week. This is a huge difference between our competition - some study courses force feed a ton of information in one 4 hour session and you walk out a little dizzy from the blast of information. If you’re really interested in retention of material and learning the content, dripping content, one week at a time, is the only way to go.
If you are taking the PG or FG, you are encouraged to take one Module per week, but not forced. You can enroll in either the FG or PG and you immediately have access to the entire course library and content, to take at your convenience. The Fundamentals of Geology Prep Course is a total of eight Modules, intended to be an eight week course, with around 9 hours of video/lecture content and over 400 practice questions. The Practice of Geology Prep Course is a total of five Modules, intended to be a five week course, with around 5 hours of video/lecture content and practice questions for each Module.
If you are taking the California Specific Exam, the course is slightly more structured, in that one Module becomes available each week for four weeks. The California Specific Geology Exam Prep course is 4 hours long total. This means that the course is 4 weeks long and each week you attend a roughly one hour session. Between sessions, you will be given direction and material for themed study if you want to dive deeper on that session’s topic. Total course time is about 4 hours with additional study material between classes and practice questions every week.

UPDATE! - California Specific Exam Courses
The California Specific Exam: In the past, the CSE was only offered three times per year but now it will be available year-round, at your convenience. Opening it up like this will give you more flexibility to begin your studying when it works best for you. Anytime. Anywhere.
How it works: One module becomes available each week for four weeks (Module 5 is released the same week as Module 4) and you are free to go back to any module at any time after it opens. On the day of enrollment, Module 1 is fully open and ready to take. Then every 7 days following your enrollment, another module opens. You are free to go back and revisit topics, watch/listen to the videos as many times as you’d like. That means you’d ideally begin studying at least 4 weeks prior to the CSE - if you are within that 4 week window and want to cram the info, shoot me an email following your enrollment and you’ll be able to access the entire course.
Schedule for ASBOG® FG and PG Exam Courses
Available anytime, on your schedule. We recommend scheduling yourself to take one Module per week for the weeks leading up to the exam, leaving an extra week or two for final studying. This will leave all the material fresh in your mind right before the exam, but if you insist on beginning earlier, you are free to do that also! Whatever is most convenient for you.

You will be provided with PDF copies of all the course notes to download and use for reference in your studies. Between classes, you are provided with reference material for a deeper dive on the topics we covered that week. And you will be provided with practice questions for each module and each topic covered.

The CSE course is carefully designed, with the highest integrity to content, to teach you what makes the practice of geology in California unique; in that you will become well prepared to take the California Specific Geology Exam and practice geology in California. Neither Horacio or I have any specialized or confidential knowledge of the exams. Just being clear on that point.
